Synbiotics is related to food ingredients or dietary supplements. It involves combination of probiotics and prebiotics in a form of synergism, hence they are called synbiotics. The synbiotic concept was first defined as "mixtures of probiotics and prebiotics that shows its benefits towards the host by improving the survival and implantation of live microbial dietary supplements in the gastrointestinal tract. Synbiotics may be complementary synbiotics or synergistic synbiotics, where complementary synbiotics involves each component which is independently chosen for its potential effect on host health, o where as in synergistic synbiotics the prebiotic component is chosen to support the activity of the chosen probiotic. Probiotics are live bacteria that is intended to colonize the large intestine.
