Solanum Aethiopicum

Solanum aethiopicum L is the bitter tomato, ethiopian eggplant or nakati. It is a fruiting plant of the genus Solanum. It is also popularly known as Ethiopian nightshade, garden eggs, and mock tomato. The leaves of Solanum aethiopicum are eaten as a leaf vegetable and which are more nutritious than the fruit. The bitterness of the fruit depends on the levels of saponin it contains, some with a sweet flavor and others very bitter. They turn bright red when the berries mature, because of high carotene content. Garden egg is most commonly used to make a tomato based sauce which can be used to eat yam.
