Gastrografin is a combination of diatrizoate sodium solution and diatrizoate meglumine. Gastrografin is a contrast of radiopaque medium used for examination of radiographic segments of the gastrointestinal tract (stomach, esophagus, colon, proximal small intestine ). Gastrografin can also be used in computed tomography (body imaging) of the torso as an adjunct to contrast enhancement, this preparation is in conjunction with I.V administration of a contrast of radiopaque agent. Gastrografin is generic available.
Side effects of Gastrografin are as follows:
> vomiting
> low blood oxygen
> diarrhea
> shortness of breath
> nausea
> severe allergic reaction
> fast heart rate
Depending on the nature of the size of the patient and the examination, The adult oral dosage of Gastrografin may range from 30 to 90 ml.
