Microscopic colitis is the inflammatory response caused due to engorgement of collagen or lymphocytes on the wall of colon. Watery diarrhea is the common symptom associated with microscopic colitis.

Chemical colitis: Inflammation caused due to the chemicals.

Ischemic colitis: Ischemic colitis is the inflammation cause due to lack of blood supply to the colon where the arteries that supply blood to colon are constricted and inflamed.

Infectious colitis: occurs due to infections caused by bacteria and viruses. Food borne infections are caused by E.coli, Salmonella, campylobacter and Shigella. Parasitic infections caused by Giardia result in diarrhea. Pseudomembranous colitis is caused by the bacterium Clostridium difficile.
