Scientific Journals On Immunodeficiency

Immunodeficiency is a condition in which your body cannot produce enough substances to fight an infection or a part of the immune system is missing. Immunodeficiency can also be defined as an alteration in the immune response. In this condition, the person is more prone to infections which are generally more serious and which last longer than usual infections. The immune system is the body's main system for fighting infections. We are born with innate immunity and adaptive immunity develops throughout life. Immunodeficiency journals deal with the immune response and diseases.
Primary immunodeficiency disease (PID) is a rare inherited and congenital disorder of the immune system. The lack of awareness among doctors of these rare diseases leads to a long delay in their diagnosis and treatment. This period can reach around six years for a primary disease due to a deficiency of antibodies and, at the time of diagnosis, patients already suffer from complications such as bronchiectasis and chronic sinusitis. These complications can be avoided, in the majority of patients, by early diagnosis and adequate treatment with immunoglobulin replacement therapy. Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) now offers the possibility of curative treatment for some of these diseases, but is limited by the shortage of suitable donors and by the complications resulting from donor cell transplants. For these reasons, BMT is only applicable to part of the cases. Somatic gene therapy allows the transplantation of new genes into patients' own bone marrow to directly complete the genetic mutation and restore the full function of white blood cells.
