Biography

Post her MPhil in Development Studies (2010-2011), Shinjini was an Associate at the Community Empowerment Lab, India. She also co-founded non-profit 'S4DA' and it's flagship programme 'K.H.E.L' which uses sports as a medium to enhance the life skills of children in difficult circumstances, her non-profit is currently working with over 300 children. She also has five years of experience as a program anchor and associate at PROACT where she has led qualitative studies and assessments in multiple Indian states on Government and internationally sponsored rural development programmes in microcredit, rural drinking water supply, health and education. She has contributed to CARE's State Strategy and assisted in the building of three NGO networks headed by minorities, Dalits and women. As a member of the Project Advisory Group for the BBC WST Reach and Response, Bonded Labour project she has provided strategic inputs to BBC WST's efforts in her state. She has also acted as a resource person for the DFID sponsored PACS program in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand and published various reports on inclusive education, exclusion of dalits, tribals and minorities as well as on livelihoods and entitlements for the Sri Dorabji Tata Trust, UNICEF and USAID sponsored projects.

At Cambridge, she is on the Research Panel for Human Trafficking, which directly supports the UN Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons and is Communications Officer for the Cambridge Society for Social and Economic Development (CAMSED).

Marginalization, Industry and Rural Development, Indigenous leadership in Civil Society, Conflict, Gender in Politics, Land Rights, Minority Education, India's Scheduled Castes and Tribes, Agriculture, the Maoist movement in India-Naxalism.
