Abstract :

Chronic plaque psoriasis remains one of the most prevalent immune-mediated skin disorders worldwide, significantly affecting patient quality of life. Over the past decade, biologic therapies have transformed disease management through targeted modulation of immune pathways. This presentation examines the current landscape of biologics, focusing on IL-17, IL-23, and TNF-α inhibitors, and highlights emerging molecules showing promising efficacy and safety profiles. The session will discuss the mechanisms of action of major biologic classes, emphasizing their impact on inflammatory signaling and skin barrier normalization. Clinical trial data will be reviewed to compare response rates, remission durability, and adverse-event profiles across different agents. Special attention will be given to personalized treatment strategies, including biomarkers that predict therapeutic response, tailoring biologics to disease severity, comorbid conditions, and patient preferences. Real-world evidence from diverse global cohorts will also be presented, illustrating how biologic accessibility, socioeconomic factors, and healthcare infrastructure influence treatment outcomes. In addition, the growing role of biosimilars in improving affordability and expanding treatment reach will be addressed. The presentation concludes with future perspectives on next-generation biologics and combination therapies, emphasizing their potential to achieve long-term remission with minimal immune suppression.

Biography :

Maria Alvarez is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at the University of Barcelona and a leading expert in inflammatory skin diseases. With over 15 years of clinical and academic experience, she has contributed extensively to psoriasis research, particularly in biologic therapy optimization. She has participated in numerous international clinical trials and advisory boards, and her work is widely published in high-impact dermatology journals. Dr. Alvarez frequently speaks at global dermatology and immunology conferences.
