Abstract :

Teledermatology has rapidly evolved into a powerful tool for improving dermatologic care, particularly in underserved and remote regions. This presentation explores the latest advancements in teledermatology platforms, AI-assisted diagnostic tools, and remote monitoring systems that are reshaping the global dermatology landscape. The talk will highlight various teleconsultation models, including store-and-forward systems, realtime video consultations, and mobile health applications, emphasizing their roles in expanding specialist access. Key discussion areas include the integration of artificial intelligence for triage support and lesion classification, with a focus on machine learning algorithms used to detect melanoma, inflammatory skin diseases, and chronic wounds. Evidence from multi-country implementation studies will be reviewed, demonstrating improved diagnostic accuracy, reduced waiting times, and enhanced patient satisfaction. Important challenges—such as data privacy, unequal digital literacy, and regional disparities in technology adoption—will also be addressed. Strategies for overcoming these barriers, including capacity building, community partnerships, and the development of culturally adaptable digital tools, will be presented. The session ultimately showcases how teledermatology can complement traditional clinical practice, strengthen health systems, and deliver equitable dermatologic care on a global scale.

Biography :

Jonathan Reed is a Professor of Dermatology and Digital Health at King’s College London, specializing in telemedicine and AI-driven diagnostic innovation. He has led pioneering projects implementing teledermatology networks across Europe, Africa, and South Asia. His research focuses on improving early skin cancer detection, designing scalable digital-health models, and enhancing global dermatologic care equity. Prof. Reed is an advisor to multiple international health agencies and a frequent keynote speaker at global dermatology forums.
