This burgeoning field, known as bioprospecting, is dedicated to the systematic identification and isolation of these valuable substances from marine organisms. Algae are prolific producers of a remarkably diverse array of secondary metabolites, which include polysaccharides, pigments, lipids, and polyphenols. These compounds are increasingly being investigated for their potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiviral, and anticancer properties, highlighting their significance in addressing global health challenges and driving the search for novel drug leads and functional food ingredients [1].
Polysaccharides meticulously extracted from a variety of seaweeds have demonstrated promising immunomodulatory, anticoagulant, and prebiotic effects, thereby establishing their value as key nutraceutical ingredients.
