Biography

Dr Shio Jean Lin is currently working as the chair professor and director of genetic counseling center in Chi Mei Hospital, Tainan, Taiwan. She has received her medical degree in National Taiwan University School of Medicine during the period of 1973-1980. She was trained as pediatrician in the National Taiwan University Hospital and then clinical geneticist in the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson Hospital of the Rutgers Medical School. She has successfully completed her administrative responsibilities as Director General in the Health Promotion Bureau, Ministry of Health during 2002-2005. She also had been appointed as Associate Dean of Medical School, National Cheng Kung University during 2007-2012. She is currently coordinates a nationwide project on "Cultivating Citizens' Core Competence" funded by the Ministry of Education since 2011. To promote medical education research, she also serves as the chair person of Medical Education Committee in the Department of Science Education, Ministry of Science and Technology since 2013. She is primarily a pediatric geneticist/endocrinologist with various interests include medical ethics, medical humanity, medical education and health policy. Her research has included rare genetic disorders, genetic counseling, ELSI in genetics and medical education. She has authored more than 150 research articles. She is a member of Taiwanese Pediatric Society and Human Genetics Society. She is serving as an expert reviewer for journals like Pediatrics and Neonatology and Journal of Genetic Counseling.
