Vitamin D deficiency can lead to a loss of bone density, which can contribute to osteoporosis and fractures (broken bones). Severe vitamin D deficiency can lead to many other diseases. For example In children, there may be a chance of causing rickets. Rickets is a uncommon disease which causes the bones to become soft and bend. African American infants and children are at higher risk of getting rickets. In adults, if there is a severe vitamin D deficiency then it leads to osteomalacia. Osteomalacia can cause weak bones, bone pain, and muscle weakness. Researchers are studying and examining vitamin D for its possible connections to several and many more ways to medical conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, and autoimmune conditions such as multiple sclerosis. esearch should be done more so that they can understand the effects of vitamin D on these conditions.
