Neonatal infections can occur after delivery, and also after birth, from external sources. In the case of utero infection, infection may occur before the consequences of birth depend on infection time, spontaneous abortion, premature birth time. Popular viral agents are the hepatitis B, herpes virus, unless transmitted transplacentally by viruses. Bacterial agents such as streptococci species are harmful to the enteric gram –ve bacteria. Antibiotics can be effective for neonatal infections, particularly when the pathogens are identified quickly. Neonatal infection can be distressing to the family and will initiate a concentrated effort by clinicians to treat it. Work to improve the management of infections and the mother's prophylactic care to prevent infections of the baby continues.
