An aircraft is a vehicle which can travel by receiving air support. It counteracts the force of gravity by either using a static lift or the dynamic lift of an airfoil or the downward thrust of jet engines in a few instances. Common aircraft examples include aircraft, aircraft (including blimps), gliders, paramotors, helicopters and hot-air balloons. The human activity surrounding the plane is called aviation. Aviation research, including the design and construction of aircraft, is known as aeronautics. Crewed aircraft are flown by an onboard pilot, but unmanned aerial vehicles may be remotely controlled or self-controlled by onboard computers. Aircraft can be categorized by various factors, such as type of lift, aircraft propulsion, use, and others.
