One of the most common childhood illnesses worldwide is early childhood caries (ECD). ECC is caused by a dysbiotic condition of oral microorganisms mainly caused by a diet high in sugar. In addition, poor oral hygiene or insufficient removal of dental plaque leads to rapid progression of ECC. ECC not only causes tooth destruction and pain in children, but also affects the quality of life of caregivers. Children with extensive ECC are at high risk of developing cavities with permanent dentition or will have other problems with speaking and / or eating. To avoid ECC, several strategies must be taken into account. Children should brush their teeth with toothpaste containing mild ingredients, such as mild surfactants and agents with anti-stick properties against oral microorganisms. Parents / guardians must help their children brush their teeth. In addition, remineralizing and non-toxic agents should be included in the formulation of the toothpaste. Two promising biomimetic agents for children's oral care are amorphous calcium phosphate [Cax (PO4) yn H2O] and hydroxyapatite [Ca5 (PO4) 3 (OH)].
