Medical pharmacology is human drug science, and its beneficial clinical application in patients. It is underpinned by the fundamental pharmacology theory, with an additional emphasis on the implementation of pharmacological concepts and quantitative methods in the population of the actual human patient. It has a wide variety, from the identification of new target molecules to the effects of drug use in whole populations. Clinical pharmacologists typically have a rigorous medical and science training allowing them to analyze evidence and produce new research through well-designed studies. As well as being supervised by medical practitioners, clinical pharmacologists need to have access to adequate outpatients for clinical treatment, teaching, education and study. Patient duties include, but are not limited to, the study of adverse drug effects, therapeutics, and toxicology including reproductive toxicology, cardiovascular risks, perioperative drug treatment, and psychopharmacology.
