Biography

Prof. L.P. Awasthi, Ex.Head, Department of Plant Pathology, N.D. University of Agriculture & Technology, Narendra nagar (Kumarganj), Faizabad (U.P.) India., is a distinguished scientist who has made significant contributions to the field of Plant Pathology in general and Plant Virology in particular . He has done Proficiency in French Language and Ph.D .in plant Virology from Lucknow University, Lucknow. India. His area of specialization is Virology and professional experience includes more than 45 years of teaching microbiology, plant pathology and virology. He has guided 77 M. Sc. (Ag.) and 35 Ph.D. Students and was actively involved in planning and organizing activities of the university, pertaining to teaching, research and extension.

Research Interest

The major areas of his research interest include:

•The diagnosis and characterization of viral diseases of important crop plants. •Antiviral efficacy of plant extracts in different host/virus combinations. •Purification, isolation and characterization of antiviral agents from higher plants (phyto -antiviral). •Molecular characterization of the resistance inducing and defensive antiviral proteins from plants. •Mode of action of phyto-antiviral (SRIPs) in different host/virus combinations. •Purification, isolation and characterization of defensive antiviral proteins from host plants, induced following the treatment with phyto -antiviral agents (systemic resistance inducing proteins). •Antiviral efficacy of defensive antiviral proteins induced in host plants following the treatment with phyto -antiviral agents (systemic resistance inducing proteins). •The eco-friendly management of the viral diseases of crops through phyto -antiviral (antiviral agents of plant origin-botanicals).
