Biography

Dr Vasiliki Zolota was born in Athens, Greece. She obtained her medical degree from the Athens University School of Medicine in 1985. She was trained in Anatomic Pathology (1986-1990) at the Department of Pathology, Hellenic Anticancer Institute “St Savas Hospital”. She was certified by the Greek Association of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology in 1990. She obtained her PhD degree by Athens University in 1992 and was elected in the position of Lecturer of Pathology in Medical School, University of Patras in 1993. She was elected as Assistant Professor of Pathology in 2000 and as Associate Professor of Pathology in 2008. Since 1994 Dr Zolota teaches Anatomic Pathology in second and third year medical students and since 2008 collaborates in the teaching of Integrated Courses of the revised Medical Curriculum in third and fourth year medical students (6th and 7th semesters). She participates also in the teaching of Pathology residents and provides diagnostic work in the Department of Pathology of the Patras University Hospital in Surgical Pathology and Hematopathology specimens. Her research interest focuses on the study of alterations of intracellular and nuclear signalling in tumors of breast, lung, gastrointestinal, central nervous and hematopoietic system. She supervises 2 PhD dissertations. She is member of Greek Society of Pathology since 1998, and of European Society of Pathology since 1995. Since 2009 she is member of the European Group for Breast Screening Pathology. She has 39 presentations as invited speaker in national and international meetings. She is involved in national and international collaborations in the field of tumor pathology.

Research Interest

Study of intracellular and extracellular pathways of carcinogenesis in human neoplasias.
