Pink Disease

A condition of pain and pink coloration of hands and feet is called as acrodynia. This disease is most commonly found in children who are chronically exposed to heavy metals such as Mercury. As it induces a dusky pink coloration of body organs it is also called as pink disease. Symptoms of this disease include itching, burning, pain, discoloration, swelling and desquamation. Mercury compounds are used for various medical purposes such as laxatives, antiseptics, antimicrobial drugs for various diseases contains calomel. Ultimate goal of treatment of this disease is removal of inciting agent. However the standard of care suggested to prevent this disease is discontinuation of environmental exposure and chelation therapy.
