In modern decades, fungal functions in bioremediation of toxic contaminants such as potentially toxic elements enduring in soil, drain water & landfills are obsereved. Bioremediation is another thanks to cater to toxic pollutants within the environment. Some decompose fungi are able to eliminate metals by emerging metabolites, such as oxalate, which might connect with metal ions & produce insoluble varieties of metal:crystal complexes. Mycoremediation is an on-site remediation method, which applies fungi to weaken or sequester contaminants present in the environment.  They form enzymes to reduce the plant polymers cellulose & lignin which are very stable compounds that give plants their structure. Using identical mechanisms, fungi also can break down some toxic substances. Fungi are known to degrade to deteriorate, a large kind of materials & compounds, methods called mycodegradation & mycodeterioration.
