Milk, also called dairy milk, is extracted as an agricultural product from farm animals during or shortly after pregnancy. Dairy farms produced approximately 730 million tons of milk in 2011, from 260 million dairy cows. India is the world's largest producer of milk and the leading exporter of skimmed milk powder, but exports only a few other milk. The ever-increasing increase in the domestic population of New Zealand, Germany and the Netherlands is the largest exporter of milk products. China and Russia were the world's largest importers of milk and milk products until 2016, when both countries became self-sufficient and contributed to a global glut of milk. More than six billion people worldwide consume dairy and milk products.
