Medical Biotechnology

Biotechnology is a wide area of biology, involving the use of living systems and organisms for product development or production. It often overlaps with related scientific fields, depending on the instruments and applications. Biotechnology grew in the late 20th and early 21st centuries to include modern and diverse sciences, such as genomics, recombinant gene techniques, applied immunology, and development of pharmaceutical therapies. The general definition of "biotech" or "biotechnology" covers a wide variety of procedures for man-made alteration of living species, going back to animal domestication, plant propagation, and "improvements" to these through breeding programs that employ artificial selection and hybridisation. Current use also involves genetic manipulation and the production of cells and tissues. Biotechnology is laboratory research and development utilizing bioinformatics for discovering, extracting, exploiting and processing from any living organism and any source of biomass through biochemical engineering where high-value added goods could be designed.
