Goiter is a swelling inside the neck because of an enlarged thyroid gland. Goitre instances are as a result of iodine deficiency. The most not unusual purpose for goitre is iodine deficiency. If the thyroid gland is producing too much thyroid hormones (T3 ans T4), radioactive iodine is given to the affected person to cut back the gland. If goitre is resulting from iodine deficiency, small doses of iodide in the shape of Lugols Iodine or KI solution are given. If the goitre is associated with an underactive thyroid, thyroid dietary supplements are used as remedy. In extreme instances, a partial or entire thyroidectomy is required.
