Biotransformation is a chemical alteration of a chemical compound carried out by an organism. If the modification ends in mineral compounds like CO2, NH4 + or H2O, biotransformation is also called mineralization. Open access to scientific literature means removing barriers (including price barriers) to access academic work. There are two parallel “paths” to open access: open access articles and self-archiving. Open access articles are immediately and freely available on their website, a model funded mainly by fees paid by the author. Open access raises practical and political questions for academics, publishers, funders and policy makers, including including the return on investment when paying the costs of processing an article to be published in an open access article, or if investments in institutional repositories must be made and if self-archiving should be made mandatory, such are considering certain donors.
