The arts, including theatre and dance, music and the visual arts are acknowledged as an important part of tourism to a destination.Arts participation can thus be considered to be tourism where the tourist experiences forms of the visual and performing arts, including ethnic and minority art forms, for example visiting performing arts venues or art galleries, participating in arts events such as music festivals, and visiting traditional handicraft villages. Richards (2001) concurs that cultural tourism added both heritage tourism (related to the artefacts of the past) and arts tourism (related to contemporary cultural production). However, Timothy and Boyd (2003) examine that the terms ‘cultural tourism’, ‘heritage tourism’, ‘ethnic tourism’ and ‘arts tourism’ are almost interchangeable in their usage.
