Biography

Thomas Kim Hixson, PhD, is an Associate Professor who teaches advertising in the Communication Department at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater.  Hixson founded the advertising program at UW-W, served as its coordinator and also served as Graduate Studies Coordinator.  His research interests include segmenting/targeting, sports marketing, entertainment promotion, political advertising, and uses and gratifications.  Hixson worked as an advertising copywriter and television promotion executive prior to pursuing his graduate degrees.  He holds the M.A. degree in Professional Writing from the University of Tennessee – Chattanooga and the PhD in Journalism from Southern Illinois University.  Hixson was twice-elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly where he served as chair of the assembly committee for colleges and universities.  During his service in the legislature he was awarded the National Easter Seals Outstanding Advocacy Award. He has appeared in several motion pictures, most recently Public Enemies.  Hixson is married and the father of three children.
