Biography

Florin Despa is a Assistant Professor of Department of Pharmacology, University of California Davis.He has received a PhD in Molecular Physics from the International Center for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy & Institute of Atomic Physics, Bucharest, Romania. He received award for outstanding scientific work in clinical sciences from Romanian Medical Association and Vision Grant Award from University of California Davis. He has membership inAmerican Biophysical Society And American Heart Association .He has authored about research publications that include 53 review articles, 2 book chapters and he has given 18 Conference presentations, Over 40 poster contributions at international conferences and 23 invited seminars and reviewer of 15 journals.

Research Interest

1) Understanding how chronic hyperglycemic conditions trigger the impairment of the insulin and islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) secretory lines in pancreatic ß-cells and 2) Identifying the consequences of this impairment on the heart function. He also actively involved in studies aiming at (a) water solvation effects in biological system, (b) understanding physical chemistry aspects of cell injury mechanisms and (c) designing clinical approaches for drug delivery.
