Biography

Dr. Alaya Cheikh, received his Ph.D. in Information Technology from Tampere Univ. of Technology, in Tampere, Finland in April 2004; where he worked as a researcher in the Signal Processing Algorithm Group since 1994. He is currently Associate Professor with the Department of Computer Science and Media Technology at Gjovik University College in Norway. He teaches courses on image and video processing and analysis and media security. His re-search interests include image and video processing and analysis, biometrics, pattern recognition and content-based image retrieval. In these areas, he has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers, filed two European patents, and supervised several MSc theses projects. Dr. Alaya Cheikh is currently the supervisor of two PhD students and co-supervisor of a third one. He has been involved in several European projects among them: ESPRIT, NOBLESS, COST 211Quat. He served as jury member for two PhD defenses. He is serving on the technical committees of several international conferences and is an expert reviewer to a number of scientific journals and conferences related to the field of his research. He is a member of IEEE and NOBIM.
