Author(s): Njinga RL*, Osho PO, Fafure JT and Oyetade FA*

Introduction: This study investigates the impact of HIV on heavy and trace metal concentrations in blood. Methods: Blood samples from 20 HIV/AIDS patients and 20 healthy controls were collected using standard methods. Metal levels (Mn, Fe, Cu, and Zn) were measured using the Perkin Elmer Model 306 Atomic Absorption Spectrometer. Results: The analysis revealed significant differences in metal concentrations between the HIV/AIDS group and the healthy group. Mn, Fe, Cu, and Zn levels were found to be 28.23%, 2.88%, 2.64%, and 1.92% higher, respectively, in the healthy group compared to the HIV/AIDS group. In the HIV/AIDS group, Mn and Cu showed increased likelihood of life-threatening occurrences, while Fe displayed a lower likelihood, and Zn levels remained within normal distribution. Hematological parameters, includ.. Read More»
