The Intervention and Regulation of Pornography: Internal Punishment,Negative Externality, and Legal Paternalism

Yen Lai P, Dong Y, Wang M and Wang X

DOI: 10.4172/2375-4389.1000128

This paper explores whether the intervention and regulation of pornography can be justified from the grounds of internal punishment, negative externality, and legal paternalism. Our investigations were based on questionnaires collected from students and visitors in a HK university. The results point to a severe build-in punishment, a weak perceived negative externality, and a weak legal paternalism associated with the consumption of pornography. Taken together, the intervention and regulation of pornography can not be substantiated on those grounds.

Modelling the Relationship between Performance Appraisal and Organizational Productivity in Nigerian Public Sector

Paul SO, Olumuyiwa FO and Esther OA

DOI: 10.4172/2375-4389.1000129

Quite a number of challenges have been identified as confronting the effective and efficient practice of the performance appraisal system which includes the effect of managerial decisions, reward and its turnout in commitment and loyalty of employees which triggers productivity within the organization. Therefore, this study concentrates on ‘what’, ‘why’ and ‘how’ as the factors generate extreme dissatisfaction among employees and employers. Descriptive survey design method was adopted with the use of questionnaire distributed to the management and staff of some selected public sectors in Lagos State, South-West, Nigeria out of which 254 representing 85% were valid for the research. The questionnaire was structured into four sections. The study pointed that if managerial decisions are fair and just with equitable reward and promotion for job done, it will increase employees’ commitment and loyalty in the organization. In the same vein, if employees were properly motivated with the necessary and adequate training needs, innovation would increase rapidly on the job and this will thereby lead to competitive positioning. In addition to this, employees agreed that if they got regular feedbacks about their performance on the jobs, it could secure competitive positioning for the organization. As this will help them to identify their strengths and weaknesses which could invariably produce opportunities to the organization they are working with and threat to their competitors.

The power of e-word-of-mouth are impact Hotel industry dramatically in the recent years. The Ambassador Hotel Group is a five-star rated business hotel type in Taiwan. Quantitative and qualitative data are retrieved from internet respectively based on data mining technique. Descriptive and regression analysis approach are used for quantitative data, meanwhile, text analysis and words meaning assortment are used for qualitative data. Result demonstrated that higher internet exposure rate will impact hotel’s operating performance positively. ‘Services’ is most important factor toward reviewer’s perspective regarding hotel impression. Otherwise, ‘Services’ is most comment word appeared in the reviews. Some suggestions are mentioned base on research findings.

Application of Grey Theory to the Field of Economic Forecasting

Huang CY, Lu CY and Chen CI

DOI: 10.4172/2375-4389.1000131

The Grey model is characterized by basic mathematics and a need for few raw data, but it also lacks the flexibility to adjust the model to increase the precision for the forecasting model. This article shows two types of grey forecasting models, GM(1,1) and NGBM. The GM(1,1) shows its fitting ability to the linear raw data and NGBM is superior in fitting nonlinear raw data. In this article, two practical cases are shown to demonstrate the calculation procedures of both models. The results show they are feasible in forecasting.

This paper investigated the relationship between electricity consumption and economic growth in Nigeriaduring the period 1970 to 2011, using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bounds testing procedure to identify the long run equilibrium relationship and VECM Granger causality tests to identify the direction of the causal relationship between these two variables. Our result revealed the existence of long run equilibrium between the variables when Real GDP is treated as the dependent variable and electricity consumption is treated as its long run forcing variable. The VECM Granger causality test results show no evidence of short run causality. However, the results suggest the existence of a long run bidirectional causal relationship between electricity consumption and Real GDP.This implies that over time higher electricity consumption give rise to more economic growth just as economic growth may stimulate increased consumption of electricity in the long run.
