Special Issue: Effects of Corona Virus on Human Respiratory System

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are common in people and many different species of animals including camels, cattle, cats, and bats. Rarely, animal coronaviruses can infect people and then spread between people such as with MERS-COV, SARS-COV and now with this new virus (named SARS-COV-2). The Clinical spectrum of COVID-19 ranges from mild disease with non-specific signs and symptoms of acute respiratory illness to severe pneumonia with respiratory failure and septic shock. There have also been reports of asymptomatic infection with COVID-19. Patients with asthma should never stop taking their preventer inhaler unless asked to do so by a medical professional. Stopping your steroid inhaler could put you at a higher risk of complications with COVID-19 due to making your asthma worse.
