Abstract :

Introduction: Specialization is of great importance in nursing, which is one of the basic professions of the health field with a scientific discipline. Despite the fact that postgraduate nursing education has continued for more than fifty years in our country and specialist nursing is defined in the nursing legislation published more than ten years ago, nurses cannot work in the field they specialize in and there is still no specialist nursing staff in the institutions. Method: In this article, it is planned to discuss the professional-academic process, experiences and difficulties of Nazmiye K. Yıldırım, who stayed in the clinic and worked in a specialized field in nursing for 22 years, in order to present a written document to history. Findings: In line with the data obtained, nurses who graduated from the nursing doctorate program can directly serve our people and be a role model for student nurses in practice, but they have to switch to educational institutions that train nurses. K. Yıldırım, who completed his postgraduate education in the field of nursing and was approved by the Higher Education Council for the first time in our country, became a role model for the members of the profession with his efforts to specialize in the field of practice. Conclusion: This study is important in terms of creating a document by considering the first information about the effort to stay in the clinic and achieve academic advancement.
