Abstract :

Abstract: The nursing specialty program in mental health and psychiatric nursing in community firstly developed as a short course to train psychiatric nurses in Thailand. The program was on February to May, 2019. To improve program, the evaluation was important. The Context-Input-Process-Product Model (CIPP) was used as the framework. This study aimed to evaluate context, input, process, product, and impact of the program. Data was collected from 23 students using questionnaires. The set of questionnaires was used a 5-rating scale with its total reliability of .98. The sample also answered opened-end questions. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics.

The results showed: 1) mostly samples were female (82.6%) with age 25-54 years old. The context, program objectives were the highest scores (M=3.78, SD =0.23). The input, teacher characteristics were the highest scores (M=4.11, SD = 0.15). The process, the program administration was the highest scores (M = 3.83, SD = 0.20). The output, trainee experiences were the highest scores (M =3.82, SD = 0.10). For the impact, the trainee satisfaction averaged 3.94 (SD = 0.15). The trainees suggested that studying theory was likely stressful due to less of time for reviewing and changing schedule frequently. The basic course of mental health and psychiatric nursing could be provided before starting the program. The practice time in hospital and community was not sufficient to increase skills of recovery. However, the trainees were more confident and knew how to work with community about mental health and psychiatric nursing as seamless, network, and continuity.
