Molecular diagnostics: latest current approaches and the future challenges in viral diagnostics

Abstract :

There has been tremendous advancement in the field of molecular diagnostics and many latest techniques are coming up for the diagnosis of various diseases caused by the viruses and viral elements..A large number of approaches are being used in the present scenario. Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C have been a major concern since past few years due to there nature of virulence and specificity. The basic diagnostic approaches include the diagnosis via PCR approaches and other related techniques. With the latest technical advancements we use ELISA based techniques as well. In our study done at the BMHRC, Bhopal we carried out the diagnosis applying RT-PCR based techniques using kits specified by the technology manufacturers carrying specific probes like Taqman /SYBR green/ Fluorescent probes for the diagnosis of both the different viral strains. In our study what we come to conclude is that there were varying concentrations of viral load in MIC(Methyl Iso Cyanate) affected individuals and non-infected individuals based on the age groups and sex groups (in particular group sizes). in the areas of BHOPAL (site for Bhopal Gas Tragedy) and nearby areas. The study helps understand the latest approaches in molecular diagnosis of these viral diseases and helps outline the possible future approaches in the area of molecular diagnostics for viral disease diagnosis.
