Abstract :

The numbers of knee replacement surgery and expenditures have increased; therefore, cost analysis of nursing activities has become very important in the improvement of service efficiency. The aim of this descriptive research was to analyze cost per unit of service in knee replacement surgery. The sample groups consisted of 30 nurses and 8 knee replacement patients selected through purposive sampling. The instruments were records of general information of the patients; personnel costs; material costs; cost allocation; and an activities dictionary for knee replacement patients. The validity of the instruments assessed with descriptive statistics was 0.93. The study found that the cost per unit of the nursing activities was 3,113.27 Baht classified from highest to lowest into post-surgery cost 2,280.10 Baht, followed by management cost 436.08 Baht; pre-surgery cost 127.41 Baht; initial admission cost 120.10 Baht; discharge plan cost 106.70 Baht; and preparation cost 42.88 Baht. The results of this study indicate that analysis of nursing costs plays an important role for nursing administrators who prepare and control budgets to have good quality nursing management.
