Abstract :

As the number of acute ischemic stroke patients receiving rt-PA incurred increasingly high expenditures, it is necessary to analyze the costs of nursing activities in order to enhance costs management efficiency. The objective of this descriptive study was to investigate the costs of nursing activities and the cost per unit of related nursing activities. The subjects of the study were selected using purposive sampling consisting of all the 18 personnel in the emergency room and 3 patients. The instruments were records of general information of the patients, personnel costs, material costs and capital costs. The validity of the instruments assessed with descriptive statistics was 0.93. The research results revealed that the total cost per unit of activities per case was 7,917.78 Baht; classified into types of activities from highest to lowest as follows: Administering rt-PA, medical procedure, management, referral of patients to the in-patient department, patient screening and during examination activities. The results of the study illustrate that cost analysis of nursing activities is essential for nursing administrators in preparing and controlling budgets so that they are adequate for providing good quality services.
