Abstract :

Wound management in veterinary patients needs special attention since the success depends on type, severity, location duration of wound and species of the animal. Various etiological factors like extensive trauma, infections, burns, automobile accidents and extensive loss of tissue pose a challenging situation to a veterinary surgeon. conditions which were refractory to routine suturing and treatment needs Biomaterials, /biological dressings / skin substitutes for management of different types wounds like surgical wounds, bleeding wounds, septic wounds, chronic wounds, ulcerated wounds, maggotted wounds. scientists used different agents combinations biomaterials like for better wound healing viz., amniotic membrane, fibrin, collagen, chitosan-gelatin, fibrin-bioactive glass ceramics and fibrin-gelatin with mixed results.Considering that different materials (fibrin collagen, fish scales collagen, banana cellulose etc) were used on wounds and efficacy was assessed based on clinical, gross. Physiological, hematological, biochemical, and histological studies. The same were compared with routine wound treatment procedures. Results were analyzed for the wound healing accelerating properties of biomaterials to study the feasibility of use of these materials safely.
