Diabetes is the threatening disease of modern life. It is a metabolic disease in which the body cannot regulate the amount of sugar (specifically, glucose) in the blood. Ayurveda recommends the curry leaf for diabetes. The curry tree is a tropical to sub-tropical tree , which is native to India. The name itself in Tamil is pronounced as 'kariveppilai' ( kari-curry, veppu- neem and ilai-leaf ) which is the literal translation of curry leaves. The leaves of Murraya koenigii are also used as a herb in Ayurvedic medicine. Their properties include much value as an anti-diabetic, antioxidant, antimicrobial,anti-inflammatory,hepatoprotective, anti-hypercholesterolemic etc. Eating ten fresh fully grown curry leaves every morning for 3 months will help to prevent diabetes due to heredity factors. It also cures diabetes caused due to obesity, as these leaves has weigth reducing properties. People suffering from type 2 diabetes could have curry leaves to reduce their blood sugar level.
