The present study investigates the in vivo effect of Nardostachys jatamansi root extract on electron irradiation induced Clastogenic activity and sperm shaped abnormality in Wistar rats. In this study, total 24 rats were used and divided into four groups (n=6). Group I was given with Nardostachys jatamansi, 100 mg/kg body weight through oral administration for 15 days. The group II was exposed to electron radiation (3 Gy); group III was drug control and control group IV received distilled water. The bone marrow micronucleus assay, chromosomal aberration and sperm morphology were done according to standard procedures. There was significant increase in micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes, chromosomal aberrations, the sperm shape abnormality and large reduction in sperm count in electron beam irradiated group, compared to control. The present study clearly showed that Nardostachys jatamansi has dose-dependent modulatory effect on electron beam irradiation induced micronuclei, chromosomal aberration and sperm morphology. The present results conclude that Nardostachys jatamansi possesses anti-genotoxic phytoconstituents
