Precision agriculture (PA), like the integration of information, communication and control technologies in agriculture, is developing day by day. The Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing paradigms offer breakthroughs to improve PA connectivity. However, their use in this area is generally limited to specific high cost scenarios, and they are not suited to semi-arid conditions, or do not cover all PA management effectively. For this reason, we offer a flexible platform capable of meeting the needs of soilless cultivation in greenhouses with full recirculation using moderately saline water. It is based on low-cost exchangeable hardware and supported by an open source software platform at three levels on the local, peripheral and cloud levels. At the local level, cyber-physical systems (CPS) interact with harvesting devices to collect data and perform atomic control actions in real time. The peripheral plan of the platform is in charge of monitoring and managing the main PA tasks near the access network to increase the reliability of the system against network access failures. Finally, the cloud platform collects current and past records and hosts data analysis modules in a FIWARE deployment. IoT protocols such as Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) or Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) are used to communicate with CPS, while Next Generation Service Interface (NGSI) is used for access south and north to the cloud. The system was completely instantiated in a real prototype within the framework of the EU DrainUse project, allowing the control of a real closed hydroponic system thanks to a management software for the final farmers connected to the platform.
