Rectal cancer as part of colorectal cancer is one of the most common human malignancies. The incidence of colorectal cancer has increased dramatically as a result of economic development and industrialization. The clinical manifestation is based on the anatomical location of the rectum in the pelvis. Rectal bleeding, discomfort in the direction of tenesm or pain, spots of blood and mucus on underwear or changes in bowel movements are the most common symptoms.
Diagnostic methods should aim to determine the extent of tumor involvement, whether the tumor has grown or grown in surrounding organs or structures, the distance from the tumor to the skin line, and the potential for metastatic spread. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in rectal cancer was first studied in 1999 and is now essential in planning treatment. MRI has great accuracy in predicting the involvement of the circumferential resection margin and is used to plan the treatment strategy.
