A preterm birth is a birth that takes place more than three weeks before the baby is due. Although, a premature  birth is one that occurs before the start of the 37th week of pregnancy. In other words preterm birth has been a major focus of study for the past two decades by health care workers in several disciplines, However, research into causal pathways and new demonstrative and treatment modalities is now bearing fruit and translational actions are beginning to impact upon PTB rates. A cesarean delivery is usually performed when obstacles from pregnancy make classical vaginal birth difficult, or put the mother or child at danger.
