Periodontitis also called gum disease, is a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue and, without treatment, can destroy the bone that supports your teeth. The more dangerous bacteria were able to thrive and multiply producing some harmful by products that stimulate the body defensive inflammatory response in the gums. As it progresses, your bones and teeth can be damaged. It can cause teeth to loosen or lead to tooth loss. However, if it is treated early and proper oral hygiene is maintained, the damage can be stopped. In many of the people, this is a gradual process that takes place over many years and, if detected and treated, can be halted.
