Concrete is amalgamated material poised of coarse as well as aggregate bonded together with a fluid cement paste that hardens and even increases its durability over time. In Ancient times lime based cement binders were often used, such as lime putty, but sometimes with other hydraulic cements, such as calcium aluminate cement. At several time when energy concerns and sustainability issues are high on international agendas, the role of concrete is highly paramount. Concrete has its global versatility and availability make it the world's first choice based on both offshore and onshore, above and below ground despite having many applications. It is also unique, being the only cold, moldable, inorganic plastic that can be used on a significant engineering scale. However, for concrete and other cementitious derivatives to be developed further, the use of alternative hydraulically active materials used either with or without plain Portland Cement, the impacts of using secondary aggregates, sustainability and durability issues.

Open Access Concrete Journals covers every aspect of concrete manufacture, performance, behaviour and evaluation of constituent materials to mix design, testing, durability, structural analysis and composite construction.
