Mycobacterium chelonae infection complicating traumatic and surgical wounds. Mesotherapy is sometimes responsible for dermal and subcutaneous infections caused by nontuberculous mycobacteria. M. chelonae , M abscessus, and M fortuitum are usually involved in such diseases. This is also the reason for the hardiness of mycobacteria. The pathogens that cause tuberculosis are mycobacteria that belong to the M. tuberculosis complex. This complex comprises M. tuberculosis such as M. bovis (subsp. bovis and caprae), vaccine strain M. bovis BCG (Bacille Calmette-Guérin), M. africanum, M. canettii, M. microti, M. pinnipedii. that are resistant to at least rifampicin and isoniazid, two key drugs in the treatment of the disease. Mycobacterium tuberculosis drug research is involved with the research in treatment of the disease.
