We have already explained what organic photovoltaics (OPV) and luminescent solar concentrators (LSC) are, but let's quickly recap ... The two new technologies have been designed and developed in our Research Center for Renewable Energies and the Environment in Novara, in collaboration with various international partners. They exceed the limits of traditional solar panels. OPVs are robust, light and flexible, while LSCs are used in Eni Ray Plus smart windows to create transparent surfaces that produce energy. The use of both technologies as well as traditional solar panels will make even large buildings energy independent. When the silicon panels on the roofs are not enough to provide electricity on all floors, the OPV panels on the walls will be useful, as will the LPCs in the windows. Unlike silicon, neither OPV nor LSC should face perfectly south, and they work well under diffused light, whether at noon, dawn or dusk, and even on cloudy days. But now let's see how these innovative technologies are invented.
