The International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacturing is devoted to advances in scientific understanding of the essential mechanics of processes and machines applied to the manufacture of engineering components, mainly in metals, but also in composites, ceramic and other structural / functional materials. To this end, coverage is given to a range of topics which includes:

• Essential mechanics of processes involving the removal, accretion and deformation of materials, in solid, semi-solid or particulate form

• Significant scientific development of existing or new processes and machines

• In-depth characterization of the materials of the parts (structure / surfaces) by advanced techniques (for example SEM, EDS, TEM, EBSD, AES, Raman spectroscopy) to reveal new phenomenological aspects which govern the manufacturing processes

• Tool design, use and in-depth studies of failure mechanisms

• New machine tool / assembly / tool holder concepts supported by models and demonstrations relevant to the manufacturing process as part of the review
