Pharmacogenomic tests are considered to be an integral part of precision medicine. To achieve this, we launched the 1200 patients project, which offers broad and preventive pharmacogenomic tests to patients in our establishment. We analyzed the registration, genotype and encounter data from the first year of implementation to assess the usefulness of providing pharmacogenomic results. The results were provided via a genomic prescription system (GPS) in the form of traffic lights: green (favorable), yellow (caution) and red (high risk). Additional information was provided for virtual pharmacogenomic consultation, including citation of relevant publications. Currently, 812 patients have participated, or 90% of those approached; 608 have been successfully genotyped on a personalized matrix. A total of 268 clinical meetings were held and the results were accessible via GPS. At 86% of the visits, the doctors accessed the GPS, receiving 367 result signals for the medicines the patients were taking: 57% of green lights, 41% of yellow lights and 1.4% of red lights. Doctors' frequency of clicks for clinical details on alerts varies with the severity of the color (100% of the red has been clicked, 72% of the yellow, 20% of the green). For 85% of the visits, clinical pharmacogenomic information was available for at least one drug that the patient was taking, which suggests the relevance of the information provided. We have successfully implemented an individualized healthcare model of preventive pharmacogenomic tests, producing results with pharmacogenomic decision support. Patient interest was strong, information adoption by physicians was high, and the results were systematically used. Continued review of more clinical encounters and inclusion of more physicians and patients is warranted. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
