The Symptoms of HIV vary depending on the stage of infection. Although people living with HIV tend to be more contagious in the first few months after becoming infected, many do not know their status until the later stages. For the first few weeks after the initial infection, people may have no flu-like symptoms or syndrome, including fever, headache, rash, or sore throat. lymph nodes, weight loss, fever, diarrhea and cough. Left untreated, they could also develop serious illnesses such as tuberculosis (TB), cryptococcal meningitis, severe bacterial infections, and cancers such as lymphomas and Kaposi.

Behaviors and conditions that put people at increased risk of contracting HIV include unprotected anal or vaginal sex and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as syphilis, herpes, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and bacterial vaginosis and sharing contaminated needles, syringes and other injections. drug equipment and solutions when injecting drugs and receiving risky injections, blood transfusions and tissue transplants, and medical procedures involving non-sterile cuts or punctures and accidental needlestick injuries needle, including in health workers.
