Bioactive Glass

Bioactive glasses are a group of glass-ceramic reactive biomaterials to the surface, and consist the original bioactive glass, Bioglass. The biocompatibility and bioactivity of these lenses has led them to be extensively investigated for use in the human body as an implant device to repair and replace diseased or damaged bones. There is some preliminary evidence that bioactive glass can also be useful in infections with long bones. Solid state NMR spectroscopy has been of great use in elucidating amorphous solids structure. Bioactive glasses were tested using MAS NMR spectroscopy with 29Si and 31P solid state. The chemical shift from MAS NMR is determination of the type of chemical species present in the glass.
