Biography

Cecile S. Holmes, an associate professor in the University of S.C. School of Journalism and Mass Communications, is also head of USC SJMC's journalism sequence. That includes online, broadcast and multimedia faculty. Holmes specializes in teaching advanced writing and reporting classes and in the course, "Faith, Values and the Mass Media."  Before joining the USC faculty, Holmes worked at newspapers in North Carolina and Texas. The former religion editor of the Houston Chronicle, she has also been a correspondent for Religion News Service, the Washington-based interfaith wire service. Her work has included international reporting in Italy, Israel, Mexico and the Caribbean. Her articles have been published in such places as the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, Religion News Service, The Christian Century, The Episcopal New Yorker, PBS's Religion and Ethics Newsweekly, The United Methodist Interpreter, Pink: The Magazine for Women in Business, The Lutheran and other online and print publications. An award-winning journalist and academic, she is the author of two books.
